ABOUT THE AUTHOR

For Mason Manthous, the most important element of any compelling story is uncertainty. That means more than constructing a plot that readers cannot easily predict. The best stories create a genuine sense of danger—the unsettling possibility that events may not unfold as anyone hopes.

As readers follow characters through their struggles, they begin to identify with them and become emotionally invested in their journeys. They want certain characters to succeed, find happiness, and overcome the forces aligned against them. At the same time, they want villains to fail and receive the consequences they deserve. For Mason, the knowledge that none of those outcomes is guaranteed creates the tension that keeps his heart racing and makes his favorite books impossible to put down. He strives to bring that same uncertainty, emotional investment, and ever-present danger to his own fiction.

Mason grew up in Dunstable, Massachusetts, and now lives in Manchester, New Hampshire. He graduated from Saint Anselm College in 2019, where he formed friendships that changed his life. His friends embraced his distinctive personality, encouraged his creativity, and occasionally persuaded him to venture into the outside world like an awkward but valued accessory. There were limits, of course: Mason proudly considers himself a quintessential geek.

In his free time, he draws and paints figures—although he readily admits that the results do not always match his ambitions. He enjoys storytelling in nearly every form, including novels, comic books, television, movies, and games. Each medium offers a different way to build worlds, develop characters, and create the suspense that first inspired him to imagine stories of his own.

Mason has wanted to become a writer for as long as he can remember. Reaching the point where he could share his work required time, determination, creative growth, and considerable encouragement from the people around him. He hopes readers will experience the same excitement, tension, and enjoyment in his stories that he has always found in the works he loves.
