ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kate S. Burns grew up surrounded by books and spent much of her childhood reading. During summer breaks, she and her sister regularly entered library contests to see who could finish the most books, becoming each other’s fiercest competition. As a teenager, Kate wrote poetry and short stories while dreaming of publishing a novel one day. She even began writing one, although it was never completed. She may eventually revisit the manuscript through an adult’s eyes—despite its striking resemblance to the film Inception. Unfortunately, she jokes, ideas cannot be copyrighted while they are still inside someone’s head.

After years spent writing technical documents, maintaining a personal blog, and receiving encouragement from her peers, Kate returned to creative writing. She always knew that if she committed to telling a character’s story, it would be Macy’s.

Kate is fascinated by how and why things work, especially the complicated forces that make people behave as they do. That curiosity lies at the heart of The Deception Series, which explores human motivations, relationships, secrets, and the circumstances capable of driving ordinary people to extraordinary extremes. Through suspenseful storytelling and layered characters, she seeks to understand not only what people do, but also the emotions and experiences that lead them there.

Although The Deception Series marks an important step in her writing career, Kate has no intention of making it her only work. Her strongest literary influences include Nora Roberts and Stephen King, while Freida McFadden has recently earned a prominent place on her bookshelf. Becoming a published author fulfills a childhood dream, and Kate has many years of stories and ideas waiting to reach the page.

Kate lives in New York with her husband, daughters, and pets. After her family and books, traveling is one of her greatest loves. She and her husband take at least one vacation each year, usually choosing a new destination so they can experience the world from another perspective. When she is not working, writing, reading, or traveling, Kate enjoys martial arts, playing hockey, running, and watching Doctor Who.
