Instead, he finds a strange brass device glowing with an unnatural purple light – a machine that should not exist, and one that appears to move through time itself.

What begins as curiosity slowly becomes a new life when he can’t return to the future. Dan finds himself living in the small Ohio town of New Chapel in the 1940s, working in a bookstore, making friends, and building a quiet existence far removed from the world he left behind. His friendship with Jack and Lucy is the anchor of his new life in a time that isn’t his own, and for the first time, the past begins to feel like home.

But the past isn’t as simple as he imagined when people begin to die, not from accidents or natural causes, but murders that didn’t happen in his timeline. As the deaths begin to connect in unsettling ways, Dan realizes that his presence in the past may be changing more than just his own life. The deeper he becomes involved with Lucy and the people around him, the more he is forced to confront a terrifying possibility: his presence in the past may be changing everything.
